Privacy Statement

Thank you for visiting the website of the Virginia Freedom of Information Advisory Council. The purpose of this privacy statement it to explain the types of information the Council obtains about visitors to the website, how the information is obtained, and how the information is used. This statement is published in accordance with § 2.2-3803 of the Code of Virginia, requiring all public bodies that maintain an Internet website to develop an Internet privacy statement and post it on the website. This website does not place a "cookie" on the visitor's computer or track the visitor's movements through the website.

Information Collected and Stored Automatically

A visitor can browse the website without revealing any personal information. However, as a visitor reads webpages, certain information is gathered and stored. This information does not identify a visitor personally, and only information concerning the date and time of visit, the webpages visited, and the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the visitor's Internet Service Provider (ISP) is collected. The IP identifies the ISP, but does not identify the visitor personally. This information is used for aggregate statistical purposes only, and allows the Council to count the number of visitors and continually evaluate and improve the website's organization and content.

Use of Personal Information

The only personal information that the Council will receive concerning a visitor is that information provided voluntarily and knowingly by the visitor. Regardless of the medium by which you contact the Council, whether by electronic mail, telephone, fax, or U.S. mail, personal information will only be used for correspondence purposes. Official opinions drafted by the Council in response to Freedom of Information Act questions will be posted on the Council's website. The official opinions placed online will only include the requester's name and locality (Richmond, VA, for example).
